Having the flexibility to convert images to .webp format regardless of their size would indeed be a valuable addition. Sometimes, even if an image isn’t significantly large, the conversion to .webp could still improve page speed and overall performance. It’s frustrating to miss out on optimization opportunities due to restrictions based solely on file size. Having this option would definitely make Smush even more versatile and effective in optimizing websites for better Page Speed scores and user experience.

I especially liked the point about using Lazy Load to defer offscreen images. I’ve been using Smush for a while now and it’s definitely made a difference in my website’s loading times.

I’ve been using Smush for a while now and it’s definitely made a difference in my website’s loading times. I’m curious to try out the CDN feature to see if I can get even better results.

Smush is really the easiest and best tool for image optimization. It’s so easy to use: in the blink of an eye, in a single bulk, all images are up to scratch! It’s always a pleasure to work with Smush! The 5x reduction is also very, very powerful. Thanks team!

And I hope that one day there will also be a function to program smush in folders that go beyond the WordPress media folder, for use with images from plugins like H5P, which saves images used in exercises in different folders than the WordPress media. :)

Another point I need to highlight to praise you is that on all my sites I enabled ultra smush and I didn’t notice any loss of quality in the appearance of the images, I leave this setting as the default on dozens of client sites with a clear conscience!

Since it was launched, I no longer need to recheck images and make new bulk smushes, as sometimes happened before when the only function was the super smush…

Hi Airflour

Usually, it can happen due to the settings, please check the Animation settings and see if disabling it helps https://wpmudev.com/docs/wpmu-dev-plugins/smush/#fade-in

Another possible situation is any plugin delaying the Lazy Load script, some options that can help are:

– Make the Lazy Load script load in your Headerhttps://wpmudev.com/docs/wpmu-dev-plugins/smush/#scripts
– Use Native Lazy Load https://wpmudev.com/docs/wpmu-dev-plugins/smush/#native-lazy-load

If the issue persists feel free to create a ticket.

Best Regards
Patrick Freitas

About Lazy load, when the image takes too long to appear, what can be the problem? What about the CDN, can a shared server get in the way of its use? Because of the time taken for a quick check if the browser supports WebP.

I agree with Sascha’s comment, the resize feature without having to activate the CDN would be really nice. +1 for that. Also for WebP conversion without needing to activate CDN.

When you install Smush, Lazy Load is one of the first features you should check out. Simply enabling it can fix the ‘defer offscreen images’ PageSpeed recommendation.

Lazy Load makes the most difference for the speed wise.
