I really appreciate this blog post on how to prevent form and comment spam in WordPress. I’ve been using Forminator for a while now, and I’ve found that it’s a great way to create and manage forms. However, I’ve also been getting a lot of spam comments on my site. I’m glad to know that there are some simple steps I can take to prevent this.

I’m especially interested in the honeypot method. I’ve never used this before, but it sounds like a very effective way to catch spam bots. I’m also going to enable Akismet spam protection. I’ve heard good things about this plugin, and I’m hoping it will help me to reduce the amount of spam on my site.

Yes, hCaptcha is GDPR compliant. :)
Per their website, it “Complies with GDPR, CCPA, LGPD, PIPL and more”.

Sorry to hear you had Spam issues.

Bot spams depend on what the script is triggering, if the bot is triggering any specific form tag or field it could cause the issue and this why switching to another solution can prevent it in the beginning but it is not an actual solution as those scripts can receive updates too.

Even reCAPTCHA sometimes can’t prevent some scripts but it can reduce the number of spam indeed,

Forminator also has integrations to Akismet & CleanTalk

Also, feel free to create a ticket if you would like to look further at the spam on Forminator.

What surprises me is that since replacing the Forminator form with a form created using another (free) form-plugin, no more spam-messages were received (tested for one month now)! No captcha being used on this one too.

I had activated “honepot” feature on both form-plugins.

I still make the mistake of not using reCAPTCHA or something similar on some sites, my own of course! Occasionally I receive some spam.

Sending “requested” intimate photos, asking for help, subpoenas, etc.
