Hi Julian,

We’re constantly working on improving support with various page builder. There’s just so many of them out there, that covering every single one in one release is almost impossible. The upcoming Smush release has a major improvement on image detection mechanisms. And background images (inline) should be detected properly.

Could you please also check how image size detection is working in the latest update? And if it’s not working as expected, please explain what is wrong.

There’s one Smush feature I’d love to see more than anything and that’s better compatibility with page builders. The page builder I’m using still doesn’t work 100% with Smush. Background images aren’t served via the CDN and image size detection doesn’t work properly. Please get a copy of the Cornerstone page builder and see for yourself :)

Animated GIFs are supported for smushing, here’s an example:

There is an exception though, considering the “Resize my full-size images” option. The full-size GIFs will not be resized as they will lose their animation (for such cases please use a tool such as http://gifgifs.com/resizer/ to resize then re-upload).

GIFs are also supported in the CDN and Lazy Load modules. :)

Haha, I always get excited about these announcement posts only to realize the update in question was already out for a while. Anyway Smush is great and so are the last couple of updates!

I’m curious what the future will hold for Smush? There’s nothing on the roadmap at the moment.
