Easy to follow not only in reading but in practicality purposes – I may just adopt it from you ;-)

With all that said, thanks for the content of the article too. I have an avada theme lying in the wings that I never ended up using as I found it a little “clunky” but now I may just give it a try and see how it stacks up against the others.

Thanks again!

Hi Jeroen and thanks for the question :)

Having Lazy Load enabled from two different products will usually cause conflicts, and this actually stands for many duplicated functionalities, so it’s always better to keep just one running.

As for whether one is better than the other, Smush Lazy Loading is all around solution, meaning that it works with pretty much any theme out there, while Avada built in Lazy Load is tailor built for that specific theme so it’s suggested to try using that option first.

If Smush Lazy Loading has some features you miss from Avada settings you can give that a go (after disabling Avada Lazy Load) and I doubt that you will notice any performance drop :)

Cheers,
Predrag

1 question:
The article mentions to enable the Avada lazy loading in the Avada settings. Does this mean I need to disable lazy loading in the Smush settings?

Does this imply that the Avada lazy loading is better :p ?

Looking forward to your reply and, again, thanks for the article!

This is for sure an awesome guide, something like this is what I was after. Easy to follow steps to understand the procedure of optimizing pretty much any theme really. I will take some tips and tricks from here!

Understanding that anything could break is a crucial part when optimizing and something I’ve realised hinders my approach to a quick automated optimization. However, to achieve the best results as I have on a few of my sites spending time does achieve great results!

Thanks for the detailed guide!

To achieve a “Fast & Furiously Optimized” is what we all want haha :) and this guide sums it up!

Kind Regards
Shiv

Just realized Hummingbird updated the performance’s report dashboard to included the “Lighthouse” pie chart and thank you so much for the explanation of all the shortform terms there!!

In short:
CLS = Cumulative Layout Shift
FCP = First Contentful Paint
TBT = Total Blocking Time
TTI = Time to Interactive
SI = Speed Index
LCP = Largest Contentful Paint

Good sharing and this is the part that so much to learn as optimize performance and speed of website is really tricky!!
